Physical Examinations
On the first vaccination visit, the doctor performs a complete physical exam from head to paw. Brief follow-up exams are done at each vaccine booster. During these exams, the doctor can answer any questions you have had about your puppy. We also offer informative videos and pamphlets, detailing various aspects of puppy care.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are very important to prevent contagious diseases, which can severely debilitate and even kill a puppy. Your puppy receives a series of four to five vaccines against distemper, parvovirus, parainfluenza, hepatitis, leptospirosis, and coronavirus. For optimum effectiveness, vaccines are given every 3 weeks between 6 and 16 weeks of age. The one-year rabies vaccine is given at 16 weeks.
Fecal Examinations and Deworming
Infestation with intestinal roundworms is commonly found in young puppies and represents a contagious hazard to people. Because roundworm eggs may not show up on early fecal examinations, all puppies are routinely dewormed with a gentle, safe, effective medication on the first visit. A follow-up fecal examination is then performed at 16 weeks to check for roundworms and other intestinal parasites.
In addition, enrollment in the Well Puppy Program also entitles you to discounts on the following products and services:
Heartworm Preventative Medication
Heartworms are carried by mosquitoes and can cause a serious and potentially deadly disease in dogs. We recommend that your puppy begin lifelong treatment with heartworm preventative medication. The first package of heartworm medication is discounted 10% for members.
Home Dental Care
Early dental care is very important in the prevention of tooth and gum disease. While hard kibble and chew toys can help decrease tartar build-up, nothing can substitute for periodic brushing. Your puppy’s first toothbrush, as well as a handout on home brushing techniques, are included in the program.
Flea Prevention
Fleas can cause dermatitis and anemia as well as carry tapeworms. As a member, you receive a 10% discount on your first package of flea prevention medicine. Consult the doctor, receptionist, or our informative pamphlets for details on how these products work.
Spay/Neuter
We recommend spaying/neutering after 6 months of age. Please discuss with our doctors
to determine the best age for your dog. This helps prevent unwanted litters, undesirable heat periods, behavior problems (spraying, roaming, fighting, and mounting), reproductive tract infections, and cancer. If done before one year of age, members receive a 10% discount. NOTE: If your puppy is in heat, pregnant, or nursing at the time of surgery, there is an additional charge.
Microchip Identification
We recommend placing a small microchip under the skin, which will allow humane organizations, animal shelters, and veterinarians to identify your dog if he or she gets lost. Members receive a 10% discount on this service.
What is not included
The Well Puppy Program does not cover any cost associated with the diagnosis and /or treatment of illness or injury. If a medical question or problem is addressed during a routine vaccine visit, We charge a consultation fee in addition to the cost of any necessary tests and medications.
