About East Hills Veterinary Hospital

East Hills is proudly family-owned and has been since it was started in 1978 by Dr. Clifford Munns.  Dr. Munns practiced in Alameda in the 1970s and was looking for a new location to start a practice.  Dr. Munns loved horses and made a trip to the East Contra Costa County area to answer an ad about a horse for sale.  The horse turned out to be a poor fit, but Dr. Munns fell in love with the area and found the site of his new practice.  He found the rolling hills beautiful and named the practice “East Hills” because to him Antioch was the far east part of the Bay Area.

In the summer of 1986 Dr. Munns hired Dr. Dean Brown to work at East Hills right after he graduated from veterinary school.   He worked as an associate veterinarian until 1989, when Dr. Brown made a permanent commitment and bought into the practice to become partners with Dr. Munns.  Dr. Brown assumed all managerial duties soon after the partnership was formed, and Dr. Brown became the exclusive owner of East Hills in 1999.

Dr. Dean Brown’s son, Dr. Danny Brown, joined East Hills as an associate in 2014.  To make things simpler for clients and staff, Dr. Dean Brown goes by “Dr. Brown” and Dr. Danny Brown goes by “Dr. Danny”.  Dr. Brown and Dr. Danny became partners in 2018, and Dr. Brown retired from practice in 2024 after providing 38 years of dedicated care to the clients and patients of our area.  Although he is retired from seeing patients, Dr. Brown is still a partner at East Hills and is involved in practice management.

East Hills has been lucky to have had many dedicated associate veterinarians and staff members over the years and continues to grow to this day.  We are committed to providing our clients with the best veterinary care possible for their pets.  We also hope to provide caring, compassionate service to our clients by caring for each pet as if it were our own.
