Our Veterinarians
Dr. Dean Brown
Veterinarian
Dr. Brown has practiced at East Hills Veterinary Hospital since he graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University in 1986. He is married and has four sons. As a young man in Oregon, he trained dogs of the pointing breeds, and he has owned many cats and dogs over the years. His favorite cat was a cat rescued from the Antioch shelter. His name was “Hodges,” and he liked to sit on the back of the couch and groom the back of Dr. Brown’s head! Dr. Brown enjoys continuing education and has special interests in veterinary orthopedics and dentistry. He also likes to spend time with his family, including his 12 grandchildren.
Dr. Neefe
Veterinarian
Dr. Neefe grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and was surrounded by animals. She loved taking care of the animals and trying to help them when they were sick — especially the dogs, cats, and horses. Since age five, she has ridden and shown horses. She also participated in 4-H and went to the yearly state horse show.
She completed her undergraduate degree in zoology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During college, her academic interests were in science, and she continued to have a desire to work with animals which led her to apply to veterinary school at Madison. She got an early acceptance to veterinary school and after starting the program, she knew it was a good fit.
While in veterinary school, she came to California for a summer to visit her sister and to complete an externship. She fell in love with California and moved here right after graduation. She has been at East Hills Veterinary Hospital since 1999, and she enjoys working with a staff that she considers both knowledgeable and caring. When not working, Dr. Neefe takes care of her two beautiful daughters, two beloved dogs, and six — yes six — cats! Her cats are sometimes referred to as her “herd”, which helps her to feel more at home. She hopes to someday have horses again, but keeps plenty busy for now!
Dr. Danny Brown
Veterinarian
Dr. Danny Brown is an Antioch native and has been in practice as a veterinarian at East Hills since 2014. He attended college at BYU and majored in biology with a minor in business management. He attended veterinary school at Texas A&M University where he completed a combined degree program to earn an MBA in addition to his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Danny’s special interests are surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, and practice management.
When he’s not at work, Dr. Danny likes to spend time on outdoor adventures with his family. Dr. Danny and his wife, Megan, have 5 kids and an energetic German Shorthaired Pointer named Poppy. Dr. Danny also enjoys fishing, biking, camping, and going to the beach.
Dr. Emma Bishop
Veterinarian
Dr. Bishop is a Bay Area Native who grew up in Oakland in a house full of rescue animals. She always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian from the time she could first talk. She attended UC Santa Cruz where she earned her B.S. in Biology. From there she attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, studying a wide range of species. After graduation, Dr. Bishop returned home to the Bay Area and started here at East Hills Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Bishop has 5 dogs, a Chihuahua mix named Pepper, a 3-legged Pit Bull mix named Tater Tot, and another 3 Pit Bull mixes named Kugel, Pancake, and Noodles. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, hanging out with her dogs, and, as of recently, gardening.
Dr. Bishop has special interests in dermatology and managing allergic dogs, especially Pit Bulls and other bully breeds, and managing chronic geriatric diseases such as heart disease and kidney disease.
Dr. Pieper
Veterinarian
Dr. Pieper has been working with animals ever since her first job at a veterinary hospital when she was 15-years-old. After earning her undergraduate degree in general biology from UC San Diego, Dr. Pieper attended the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1991. Dr. Pieper enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and especially likes working with cats. Her first childhood pet was a calico cat named Winnie, and it is fitting that within two weeks of working at East Hills Veterinary Hospital, she adopted a stray calico kitten named Poppi. Dr. Pieper also has three other cats and a dog. In her spare time, Dr. Pieper enjoys volunteering at a local animal shelter, reading, sewing, and spending time with her family.
